THE HELENA HIBERNIANS

As noted above, a revival occurred in Helena when an Anaconda group in 1984 provided the help to reactivate what came to be called the Thomas Francis Meagher Division. Meagher, of course, was  famous as a great patriotic advocate in Ireland, a colorful and heroic Commanding General of the Irish Brigade in the American Civil War, and eventually the first Acting Governor of the Montana Territory.  This Division grew rapidly, reaching 120 members in a few years to become very committed in the community and in the state, with a wide ranging variety of social, religious, and patriotic activities, the high point being celebration on Saint Patrick’s Day with a Mass, parade, and dinner, with Irish entertainment. As all Irish, the Helena Hibernians are proud of their history, legacy, and culture.  They are committed to addressing social needs in the community, they love and promote learning, involve themselves in American patriotic events, and enjoy social events which they share with the community.  The Helena Irish are an active bunch, providing color, substance, and activity to the Community.
